First look: the new face of InterContinental Sydney

Aster Bar evening view InterContinental Sydney

We check in to the newly refurbished InterContinental Sydney hotel.

One of Sydney’s most celebrated hotels, InterContinental Sydney, has recently unveiled a $110m upgrade to its interiors that incorporates the heritage-listed former Treasury Building of 1851.

A thoughtful refurbishment has been managed by one of Australia’s leading architecture studios, Woods Bagot with the hotel now oozing contemporary chic while remaining true to its history. Staying here, you’re within easy walking distance to some of Sydney’s top attractions including the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour foreshore.

We recently checked in, staying overnight in the 70-square-metre Signature Harbour Suite. You can read our full Suite Life review in our upcoming relaunch issue of Luxury Travel magazine, coming soon.

Meanwhile, here’s a preview of some of the public spaces throughout the hotel, including The Treasury, the lobby, the Conservatory restaurant and the beautiful Aster bar – located on the rooftop space on Level 32. For the first time in the hotel’s history, this rooftop space and its wraparound terrace with 270-degree Sydney Harbour views are now accessible to Sydney locals too, not only hotel guests.
