Belmond introduces luxury slow-travel boat through Champagne
Belmond has launched an ultra-luxury barge and cruise experience through the canals of France’s Champagne region.
As part of its unmatched French collection, luxury operator Belmond will launch Coquelicot, A Belmond Boat, Champagne from May 2023.
Coquelicot will take guests on slow-paced sailing and highly personalised journeys through the esteemed Champagne region of France, as the boat winds its way along the canals.
The Boat will feature three, luxury-appointed cabins with ensuite facilities, an indoor salon with a champagne bar, and an extensive outdoor deck.
Coquelicot will partner with Maison Ruinart, the world’s oldest champagne house, founded in Reims in 1729. Belmond guests will be treated to a private tasting lunch by Maison Ruinart’s Chef in Residence, Valérie Radou, and Coquelicot Head Chef aboard the new barge – marking the first time Maison Ruinart’s Chef will cook a private lunch outside of Maison Ruinart.
As part of the collaboration, Coquelicot guests will also discover the brand’s latest sustainability initiatives during private guided tours of the historic Taissy vineyard.
Design notes
Coquelicot is designed by the successful French duo, Humbert & Poyet – with a brief to complement the ever-changing views for guests and create an intimate sanctuary on the water. On the vessel’s top deck, there are two seating lounges, an open kitchen and a shaded dining area that will offer a choice of spaces for guests to relax.
The interiors and exteriors of the barge will capture the essence of Champagne, with nods to the region’s hues and character. Local fabrics in earthy tones and raw materials will honour Champagne’s agricultural heritage, while fluted walls, decadent interiors and artworks will pay homage to modern-day Champagne. The striking skylight in the lounge is a celebration of Champagne’s water mapping legacy.
Coquelicot, A Belmond Boat, Champagne is part of Les Bateaux Belmond, the brand’s collection of boats in France including Provence and Burgundy.
Rates for Coquelicot, A Belmond Boat start from €82,000 (approximately AUD$128,384). Helicopter transfers from Paris are available upon request.
